What we collect

When you submit your camp's website for a grade, we collect: your camp's URL, the camp name, the city/state/zip you provide, your email address, and the camp type you select. We may also collect technical information about your visit (browser type, IP address, time of request) for security and analytics purposes.

Approximate location detection

When you load CampGrade, we make a one-time request to a third-party IP geolocation service (ipapi.co) to determine the approximate city, state, and zip code of your internet connection. We use this only to pre-fill the location field as a convenience — you can edit or override it at any time. The result is cached in your browser for 24 hours and is not transmitted to our servers. If you wish to disable this, use private browsing mode or a VPN that masks your IP.

How we use it

We use this information to: generate your camp's audit report, send you the results, send occasional product updates and improvement tips, and improve our scoring methodology. We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties except service providers (Google for geocoding and Places data, our email provider, our payment processor) acting on our behalf under written confidentiality agreements.

Visitor analytics

We track basic, anonymized analytics on every page visit to understand how the site is used and to improve it. This includes: a randomly generated session ID (lasts until you close your browser), a randomly generated visitor ID stored in your browser, the pages you view, the referring URL (where you came from), the time of your visit, a partial IP address (last segment removed for privacy), and a short browser/OS string. We do not sell this data, and our own analytics live only on our own servers. We also use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel on this site to measure how well our Facebook and Instagram ads perform and to reach people who may be interested in CampGrade. The Pixel sets Meta cookies and shares limited event data with Meta — such as page views, when a free audit is completed, and when a purchase is made. You can limit or opt out of this kind of ad tracking in your Facebook ad preferences, or block it using private browsing mode or a tracker blocker. If you do not want any analytics collected, use private browsing mode or block JavaScript from this domain.

Cookies and local storage

CampGrade uses browser local storage to save your audit results so you don't lose them between visits, to track which audits you've purchased, and to cache geographic data so repeat lookups don't trigger unnecessary API calls. We use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel for advertising measurement, as described under "Visitor analytics" above.

Third-party data

Audit results display public data about competitor camps (camp name, location, Google rating, review count) sourced from Google Places. We do not collect or store private information about competitor camps. If you are a camp owner and would like your camp's information modified or removed from a display, please contact us.
